  • The “Did Ya Know” Rotary Foundation quiz game started.  Foundation Coach Mark asked basic foundation questions with winners Heather, Robert, and Jennette scoring Amazon gift cards.  Important take aways included:  The Rotary Foundation (TRF) is not the same as our Charitable Fund; TRF is the highest ranking global charity with 91% of funds going to programs and awards; It only costs 60 cents to protect a child against polio and $50 to provide clean water!  Study up for next month's quiz at rotary.org!
  • Our District 5495 is launching Pints for Polio in October.  Russ is checking with PJ’s and David is asking Full Moon Saloon to see if they will partner with us to raise money.  With polio now reported in the US, our involvement is more important than ever!  More details to come...

  • John missed the meeting, but he has a great excuse.  He was accepting the "Housing Hero Award" from the AZ Department of Housing for the outstanding state administered grant project! And Hope House has its first family!
Student Enrichment Scholarship Recipients
Two of our Student Enrichment Scholarship winners joined us to share their camp experiences.  Koel Suby (VVS Class of ’24) spent 17 days rafting the Colorado River.  This was not your typical rafting trip though.  Koel rafted with scientists and assisted with data collection.  They studied the fish and insect populations inhabiting the Grand Canyon.  When asked what his biggest take away from his experience was, Koel responded, “That we are only visitors here.”

Mari Chang (VVS Class of ’24) spent 3 weeks at Columbia in New York City getting a taste of college life.  She took a class called “Confronting American -Isms.”  Mari shared her own experiences with racism in Sedona while teaching us how our words and actions matter.  The class afforded daily opportunities for personal reflection and growth.
Helping Hands for Housing
Helping Hands for Housing is the Sedona Educational Foundation's housing project on the campus of Big Park School. The C building will be transformed into housing units ranging from studio to one- and two-bedroom units for teachers and school district staff. This project will take all of our support. No school district funds will be used in the creation of this workforce housing and tax-deductible donations are being accepted. Please follow this link and choose "housing project" in the drop-down menu. The goal: 200 donors at $1,000 each to begin the process with architectural renderings, and constructions plans. Any questions, please reach out to Heather Hermen, heather@frontburnermedia.com
