5 Wishes
Accord Hospice & Palliative Care presented the short play "Lily" written by Bryan Harnetiaux in partnership with the Hospice Foundation of America. Our own Sara Crosby-Hartman played the role of Lily, and her ex-husband, Joe, was played by Dr. Curt Kommer. Following the show, the Accord Hospice Team presented the importance of completing your Advance Care Directives providing the user-friendly form, 5 Wishes. 5 Wishes is a living will that talks about your personal, emotional, and spiritual needs as well as your medical wishes. As depicted in "Lily" it allows you to choose the person you want to speak for you if you are unable to speak for yourself. For more information on end-of-life care and/or Advance Care Directives contact Susan Turner at sturner@accordhg.com.
Golf Extravaganza Proceeds Shared
The club presented checks to Project:  Fill the Need (PFTN) and the VOC branch of the Sedona Public Library.  Each organization received $2200.  This was the result of the tremendous success of our Golf Extravaganza!  Kathy Wozniak was moved to tears, noting that PFTN is the only food bank in VOC and served 142 just last month.  She expects this number to continue to grow.  Judy Poe and Peter Wolf expressed their gratitude and extended an invitation for us to come see the new courtyard at the library in west Sedona.  Reflect for a moment on the number of lives that will be impacted by these donations...be proud of our work as Rotarians!
Foundation Month
November is official Foundation Month, and Mark educated us through our "Foundation:  Did Ya Know?"  Remember that our Charitable Fund (CF) is not the same as The Rotary Foundation (TRF).  In 2021-22, 89% of dollars donated to TRF actually went to projects.  This is, in part, why TRF has had the highest rating from Charity Navigator for over a decade.  When you donate to TRF, you can specify how you want your dollars used.  Stay tuned for more information on how you can do just that!
Plastic into Plarn
Decanter was the site of repurposing plastic grocery bags into plarn on November 9th.  Lynn was the Princess of Plarn, showing us all the tricks.  Garey was the Prince of Plastic, bringing a massive box of bags.  Russ supervised while Kate and Carolyn cut and Miki and Robin rolled.  No one is completely sure what Statler and Waldorf (a.k.a. Rob and Mark) were doing (just kidding guys!).  But a great time was had by all!  Join us again on the 14th so we can finish what we started.  All plarn is donated to the Sedona Area Homeless Alliance for their Bedroll Project.
